Serfaus is situated on a sunny plateau at an elevation of 1.429 meters at the foot of the Samnaun mountain range. The impressive Tyrolean mountains surrounding the town lent it a worthy reputation. The Roman name, Serfaus, means “place over the gorges.” The house mountains “Furgler” (3.004 meters) and “Oberer Sattelkopf” (2.596 meters) tower over the village. Due to its unique location, Serfaus is the ideal starting point for the many destinations in the holiday region of “Serfaus Fiss Ladis.” A distinctive feature is the underground air cushion ‘subway’. The subway, which is free to use, is the second shortest subway in the world. At 1.280 meters long, it can transport roughly 2.000 passengers per hour.
